Artist Statement

1) What were the style elements you took from the example campaign ads? How did you make yours different from the examples. All the examples used the colors red white and blue. I made mine different by adding a different color as well. They also made the candidates name big, I did that as well but added a twist to the name to make it stand out more. They were mostly rectangular so I made my banner that same shape but I put a border around it.
2) Which tools did you use to create your image? Talk about specific techniques you used (layer mask, quick selection tools, etc.) and how you used them to create a specific effect. I used layer masking to get rid of the background on 2 images, the mcdonald’s ‘M’ and McCain. I used shadowing on McCain’s name to make it stand out more. I used the shape tool to create the border.
3) Discuss the experimentation you did on your three different campaign ads. First I just had a McDonald’s M to spell ‘McCain’. I used the colors red, blue, white, and yellow. At the bottom was McDonald’s slogan, “I’m lovin; it”. What changes did you make? For the second image I decided to use an image of McCain and a microphone to make it look like he is saying “I’m lovin’ it”. After that, I painted McCain’s face to look like Ronald McDonald, the clown from McDonald’s (or mascot). After creating all three images, compare and contrast them. They kind of get more detailed as I made more. Discuss what you like about each and what you would change if you had a chance. I like the creativity in them. I like that McCain is painted to look like Ronald McDonald. I guess it’s the theme of the banners I like most. I don’t think I would change anything. Which would be your "final version"? I would use either the first one or the last one. That last one might be too scary though. McCain looks more like the monster from “It” than like Ronald McDonald; but I guess that’s the point.
